This is the web site of the Mevlevi Order of America, also known as the Whirling Dervishes. Our URL honors Suleyman Hayati Dede, Sheikh of Konya, who was inspired to bring the Mevlevi traditions to the west. We are guided in the Mevlevi traditions by Dede's son and succesor, Postneshin Jelaleddin Loras. The mission of the
Mevlevi Order of America is to be a living embodiment of the Mevlevi Way, through
sharing the teachings of the great 13th century poet and mystic Hz. Mevlana, known in the West as Rumi.
To learn about our traditions and practices visit the About Us page. Please visit our Events page for information on upcoming events. Pictures and sounds from past events can be found in our Album. Contact Us to find out about meetings in your area, and please visit the Links page to continue exploring the rich traditions of the Mevlevi and Sufism.
