Dede was inspired to bring these beautiful traditions of the Mevlevi
to the West. He passed from this world on January 19, 1985.

2-4, Meeting with the Mystics, 6th Annual Retreat in Ithaca, NY
The retreat will
address the mystical components of zikr, whirling, and meditation. David and
Khadija Radin and Maile Rietow will assist Postneshin Loras. The retreat will
include a Sunday
night event which will be open to the public.

The Whirling Dervishes
of the Mevlevi Order of America will present the Sema Ceremony, honoring the great
Sufi Mystic Hz. Mevlana Jelaluddin RUMI. The evening will feature the prayer dancing
of the Whirling Dervishes. The Dervishes turn in one of the world's most beautiful
and stirring sacred rituals, in ecstatic prayerful surrender, to become vessels
for bringing blessings to earth. The Ceremony will be presented as it has been
for over 700 years in an unbroken line of transmission. Special
guests from Turkey will play classical and devotional Turkish music, including
master musicians Necati Celik, oud (fretless lute), Timucin Cevikoglu, vocals,
and Celalettin Bicer, ney (reed flute).

the Sema Ceremony, part of the 735th annual comemmoration of the passing of Hz.
Mevlana Jelaluddin RUMI on Dec. 17, 1273. The evening will feature the prayer
dancing of the Whirling Dervishes. In their traditional tall felt hats and brilliant
white garments, turners whirl in unison, attuning to the music of the heart, in
one of the world's most beautiful and stirring sacred rituals. The Ceremony will
be presented as it has been for over 700 years in an unbroken line of transmission.
